This article discusses important factors to consider when evaluating and choosing a liberal arts college.
Calumet College of St. Joseph is a degree-granting, Catholic institution of higher education sponsored by the Missionaries of
the Precious Blood (C.PP.S.). The college prepares graduates for careers and graduate school with academic and professional

- Founded in 1951 as a Lake County, Indiana, two-year urban extension of Saint Joseph's College of Rensselaer, Indiana, Calumet College of St. Joseph is today a private, Catholic, coeducational, commuter college which offers certificates, associate's degree, bachelor's degree and master's degree programs to students from the sprawling Calumet Region. This region includes southeast Cook County, Illinois, and the highly industrialized complex that is Northwest Indiana. Throughout its 51-year history, Calumet College of St. Joseph has remained true to its mission of serving the varied education needs of its commuter population. Calumet College provides both full-time and part-time study options as well as day and evening classes that meet once or twice a week. In addition, students may be awarded credit for life experience.
- CCSJ offers an active campus life with several student organizations, campus events, athletic teams, and campus ministry. In addition, students may have peer mentors who help them adjust to campus and classroom life. The college also conducts an orientation program each semester for all new students.
- Calumet College of St. Joseph awards certificates as well as associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees in a wide range of fields, including management, computer and information sciences, education, human services, law enforcement management, and other disciplines.
- Calumet College of St. Joseph is accredited to offer master's, baccalaureate and associate's degrees, certificates, and diplomas by the Higher Learning Commission, a member of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The college has been approved by the Indiana Professional Standards Board for the training of elementary and secondary teachers and holds membership in a number of state, regional and national education and professional associations including the Independent Colleges of Indiana, Indiana Conference of Higher Education, and the National Catholic Education Association.
